I have found the best tool for discipline is a water spray bottle. The type like you mist your plants with. For a small bottle add 2-3 teaspoons of plain white vinegar. Spray the dog in the facial area and repeat the same command (relative to what misdeed he is committing) (NO, STOP BAD DOG .. just try to be consistent ,using the same word each time) . If using a larger bottle double the vinegar. It will be so diluted it wont hurt their eyes and they hate the smell plus the fact they have disappointed you. I have multiple dogs in my house and this makes it easier to get the offender ,not scare the rest...however my gang freezes, when I go to pick up the bottle, lol its funny , they look around like who is in trouble!! Btw I live close to a tiger refuge and found they use the same vinegar /water to control the big cats. Spooky, lol To stop a chewer or better yet to keep it from starting, go to your local dollar tree etc. Toys are 1.00 each. Spent 7-8 bucks - buy one of every kind you can... different textures, different shapes etc. Works great for training a puppy that will be getting new teeth and also for dogs experimenting on chewing. They need variety. As they get older you will see what they prefer and then you can focus on purchasing that type. Don’t give old shoes etc. , unless you want the good ones chewed also. Even though their toys have their smell..they think another shoe is a toy also. When they have a " no no", take it away , spray them as you do, BUT IMMEDIAYELY HAND THEM A TOY that is theirs . They will happily take it and learn the difference quickly Many people and many methods. I do potty pads and a doggy door. As awful as it sounds, if a pup has a favorite spot (say the kitchen) I put a pad in there, rub a little of their accident on the pad and gradually move the pad a few inches a day towards the door I want them to use. It can be inconvenient, but it seems to work. Again, I have multiple dogs so when I add a new puppy it can start the whole gang rebelling...out comes the spray bottle (with a little stronger amount of vinegar & a can of NO POOP HERE, you can get this at many places, its smells awful) CENTER>DIGGING Usually means a bored, or hot dog. I have helped several neighbors with large dogs that dug craters in their yards. A 10.00 kiddies pool has been the answer....dogs dig to get cooler or like I said boredom. Make sure they have some toys, maybe even hang something from a tree that swings...BUT IN TEXAS HEAT make sure the dog has shade! Some yards seem ok, but when you are at work you may not realize that your yard may be in complete sun several hours a day and dog houses have low ceilings holding in the heat. If needed, buy a cheap tarp (dollar tree, lol) and make them a canopy. I have even sat up one of those twister misters that spray a fine mist of water. I put it on a timer. Double duty, the dog gets fresh cool water and a shower.
